Catholic College Forcing Professor to Recant His Beliefs

The Catholic Church describes marriage as “instituted by God, is a faithful, exclusive, lifelong union of a man and a woman joined in an intimate community of life and love.”

However, a Catholic College, Marquette University, defies these teachings and is punishing a tenured professor for defending a student’s right to object to same-sex unions.

Professor John McAdams, currently in his 3rd semester of suspension, was given an extension through the fall 2016 semester and they are attempting to compel the man to apologize for his contrary statements.

All of this stems from a 2014 blog post criticizing a graduate student instructor who told a student not to oppose same-sex marriage in her class at the Catholic university. As documented in a recording made by a student in the course, that instructor had stated that it was inappropriate to express opposition to same-sex marriage in class because it might offend others.

Not only is the Politically Correct Left taking the stance that the First Amendment does not apply to their agenda, but they have determined that antiquated forms of punishment from the inquisition are appropriate. It is not the first time that Marquette has required the admission of guilt as punishment.

Let us not forget those punished for heresy during the inquisition, in which a period of grace was given so the accused was allowed to confess and recant their faith before horrific tortures were inflicted. These tactics are being used today, as well, towards Christians in the Middle East being forced to convert to Islam.

It was announced this week that a “diverse” faculty committee recommended to the university president that McAdams be suspended without pay from April 1 through the fall of 2016 and, that he lose his job unless he admits “guilt” and apologized “within the next two weeks.” Breitbart News reported Wednesday.

McAdams mocked the idea of a Catholic college punishing a professor for standing up for official teachings of the Catholic Church. “Like the rest of academia, Marquette is less and less a real university,” he wrote. “And when gay marriage cannot be discussed, certainly not a Catholic university.”
